"Changes Aplenty in Supply Chain Software Space" a Managing Automation news article: "In other supply-chain software news, the upgrade to mySAP 5.0 SCM includes a new service parts management capability that allows manufacturers to forecast and plan service parts inventories. The result of a two-year development effort involving SAP and partners Ford Motor Co. and Caterpillar Logistics Services Inc., the new service parts planning and execution capabilities allow manufacturers to plan for slow or irregularly moving service parts and to align service parts inventory with target customer service levels, said Hans Thalbauer, vice president of applications and solutions management for SAP SCM, in an interview with Managing Automation.
mySAP SCM 5.0 also offers new support for collaborative supply chain management. Available in industry-specific versions targeting high-tech and consumer product manufacturers, the new collaboration features allow OEM manufacturers to order components for suppliers and to track the use of those components. The product also allows for collaborative replenishment between manufacturers and suppliers.
The third key enhancement in mySAP SCM5.0, Thalbauer said, is a new set of integrated analytical tools. Using SAP's Portal and Exchange Infrastructure middleware, the tool extracts supply chain data and presents it to managers in the form of preconfigured key performance indicators. The preconfigured KPIs support supply chain planners, warehouse managers, and transportation managers. Transportation managers, for example, would be able to see which transportation carriers are responsible for what percentage of a company's overall shipping business at any point in time, Thalbauer said."
