RED HERRING | Rising Costs Dent SAP Profit

RED HERRING Rising Costs Dent SAP Profit: "The companys outlook for the rest of the year shows an increase in product revenue in the range of 13 to 15 percent. These numbers are based on companys expectations for full-year software revenue growth in the range of 15 to 17 percent over last years 8.51 billion. In the quarter, the company hired 774 more people.

Mr. Kagermann also said in an interview with Bloomberg TV that the company had signed 40 deals in the first quarter of 2006 under its Safe Passage program, which aims to steal away customers from Oracle. In March, the company said it has converted more than 200 Oracle customers to SAP products since the program was launched in January 2005.

As a counter move, Oracle also has introduced an Off SAP program, but has yet to publicly announce a customer that has made the switch. The company says about 1,000 companies have shown interest in the program. "
