SAP buys Frictionless - 5/17/2006 - Purchasing - CA6335603: "ERP vendor SAP today announced plans to buy Cambridge, Mass.-based SRM provider Frictionless Commerce for an undisclosed amount. The announcement was made today at the onset of SAP�s SAPPHIRE '06 user conference in Orlando, Fla. 'With today's announcement, SAP continues its extension of mySAP Supplier Relationship Management to include an on-demand option for e-sourcing,' said Shai Agassi, president of the product & technology group and executive board member of SAP.

Frictionless has been struggling of late, according to most market watchers. AMR Research�s Mickey North Rizza said in a brief, �The deal meets SAP�s stated strategy of filling holes through targeted acquisition as it further establishes itself as the main business process platform within its customers� businesses...Frictionless was in need of a suitor and had been shopping for one for awhile.
